As one pal ends up on stage, another is locked away, and the third screws up his one true chance at love. Some true fairy godfathers save the day, conquering a dragon-queen mother and letting love rule the day. Synopsis: Straight Flush Straight Flush is a comedy that takes place in Las Vegas, set in present day. James, an early 20's everyday guy is jerked awake after a dark-comedy nightmare of his upcoming wedding day. As he slogs through his morning routine preparing for his job as bartender in a Vegas casino, his best friend, Adam, cruises through his day doing what he loves, restoring classic cars. They've been best buds since childhood, and Adam's family took James in after the death of his parents. James is clocking out at the casino when his work-buddy, Arty, stops him. Arty, a total putz, is all excited - because the two-day Adult Cinema Awards ceremonies are being held at their casino. Best of all, the hottest porn star around, Tonya Onya, will be staying at their hotel. The bad news is that this it starts tonight, and it ends tomorrow. If they're going to meet her, they have to move fast! Early that same evening, Adam and James go to a party at the elegant home of James' fiancé, Tracy. They've dated for years, but James still won't set a date. Tracy's parents, the Koenigs, despise him. Adam nearly explodes when James tells him about Tonya Onya. He's a huge fan, in every sense of the word. He's in if Arty comes up with a plan. They arrive to the Koenigs. It's obvious from her greeting that Tracy truly loves James. They only get a minute before the evil hosts, Tracy's parents, interrupt. Mr. Koenig bristles at Adam's compliment to Mrs. K's hair. It was a style suggested by James. He commands James to a meeting on the veranda. There, Mrs. K takes over and lets James know her feelings - she loathes him, but knows her daughter loves him. She'll allow a marriage with a catch - James has to accept a job at their brokerage, and have a respectable career. Otherwise, stay away from their daughter. James, Tracy and Adam bail the party to a burger joint. Tracy tells Adam "I love you, but time is passing quickly. I need to know, soon, if we're to be or not." Afterwards, Adam tells James, like a brother, "you're a friggin' idiot. Tracy's the real thing. Grab it now!" But James needs to find his true calling first, so that he supports them, and not the Koenigs. The next day, they meet Arty. He has a plan! With three "borrowed" hotel uniforms, they'll take a kitchen service elevator to Tonya's floor. Using a house-keeping room key and a lot of charm, they'll stay long enough for autographs and photos, then leave. "She'll be honored," says Arty. "She'll call us stalkers" says James. Reluctantly, he signs on, maybe as his one last hurrah of bachelorhood. Before leaving, Adam shows Arty a trick to help start his old, stalled clunker That night, they meet at the side of the hotel. Adam's waiter uniform is way too tight, while Arty floats in a maintenance suit. James, however, has chickened out. "I keep thinking of Tracy," he says. He'll wait in a casino bar. As he walks past the showroom doors, he doesn't notice the sign, "Adult Cinema Awards - Day Two: Gay & Bisexual Cinema." Adam and Arty slink through the kitchen, which is near the backstage for the awards. It is a madhouse of performers and hotel staff. They slip in unnoticed, heading quickly to the elevator. Adam is blocked by the crowd, leaving Arty alone as the elevator door closes. He presses 14. The elevator starts heading down, instead. Arty furiously starts punching buttons. The elevator comes to a complete stop. As James sits in the bar, he notices an exotic woman looking at him. She gets up and sits next to him. She introduces herself as Chili. Chili Pepper. Chili can see by the empty glasses that James is on his third. She orders a drink and smiles at him. Adam is still in the hall, confused and not sure what to do. He is unnerved by the crowd, and doesn't notice that they are all male. Including the women. Arty is pushing buttons, and pounding his head against the elevator doors. It's not going anywhere. Chili and James start talking. Chili realizes that all he wants to talk about is Tracy. While talking, James suddenly looks at Chili. "You know, if you did this with your hair," he says as he reaches over and slightly but effectively changes her hair. Chili is thrilled! As Adam tries to hide into the backstage background, two men are frantically discussing a disastrous turn. One of the main dancers hasn't shown. "Everything's ruined" laments one. The other spies Adam, in his too tight clothes, huddled in a hallway doorway. "Maybe not!" he says. Arty is now sitting on the floor, an emotional wreck. As the effects of his drinks hit James, Chili gushes about his obvious talents. Her enthusiasm draws two more of her lady friends - Winnie Baygo and Rita Book. The three women fawn over James, who is innocently enjoying the attention. Before he knows it, they lift him and carry him out of the bar and into the awards show. He doesn't notice the shocked faces of Mr. and Mrs. Koenig, who happen to be at a separate function down the hall. He also doesn't notice Mrs. K pulling out her cell phone, speaking "Tracy" into its autodial. The two men approach Adam. "We need you!" they quickly proclaim. Adam is confused and embarrassed as he hears their request. "But I'm not a dancer!" he says. "With that face and your bod, who cares?" is the reply. Before he knows it, he is pushed into a throng of dancers. They fly out onto the stage, and he is pushed out with them. As he stumbles out, his shirt is ripped off by the two men, who are now smiling. The three ladies are seated at their table with a drunk James. They hush as the lights dim and the music swells. James lifts his head in time to see men in white bikini briefs and angel wings flying onto the smokey stage. They are followed by black-leather angels, who spank the angels in slow motion. Suddenly, James squeezes his eyes in disbelief as he sees shirtless Adam stumbling onto the stage. Adam turns, confused. Good and bad angels surround him, cutting off his every move. He jumps onto a box; he is followed. He leaps away, only to be blocked again. Frantically, he sees a motorcycle in the center stage. He jumps on it, turning the key that is in the ignition. It bursts into life, and Adam steers around the stage, trying to escape. As he finally sees an exit, a white-angel leaps onto the seat with him, hugging him as they exit. James sits bewildered as the audience leaps to its feet with applause. He then looks more closely at his lady friends, and realizes that they are men. He leaves the table, drunk and upset. He stumbles over to a men's room, where he gets sick as porn stars talk stock options. Adam is surrounded by compliments and new fans. His upset quickly disappears as he receives compliments and praise. The two men thank him profusely and genuinely. Adam is touched. He is then approached by a familiar face - a classic car client. Over a quick bite, he tells Adam he has an offer for him. "I'm not like that," he explains, embarrassed. He is shocked, embarrassed, and flattered to find that it's for a business collaboration. James, hung over, stumbles to call Tracy. The phone is answered by an imperious Mrs. Koenig, who body blocks his efforts to speak with Tracy. Tracy grabs the phone and, in tears, tells James she doesn't want to see him for a while. Adam finds a devastated James in the hallway. As he tries to sober James up, he realizes that, to help James beat the Koenigs, he needs ammo. He approaches the "ladies" for help. As James waits for Adam outside, two dancers from the awards show exit the hotel. Three inebriated guests taunt them. James steps in to defend the two gay men, just in time to take a sock to the belly. The gay men then beat the hell out of the drunks, and thank James for his help. Adam picks up a defeated James and tells him he's taking him to Tracy's. James whines that there is no point. Adam slaps some brotherly love into him, telling James to grow up and fight this. James agrees, strengthened by Adam's words. Together, they pull up to the Koenig's. Mr. and Mrs. Koenig refuse to allow James to speak to Tracy. Frustrated, James yells for Tracy from the driveway. Despite her mother's wishes, Tracy comes down. She confronts James with what her parents had seen. As he tries to explain, the Koenigs interrupt and belittle him. Just when it seems that they are winning, Adam whistles. The sound of three car doors slamming precedes the grand entrance of the ladies. Together, they rip the Koenigs for their manipulations. Tracy, finally given the truth, throws her arms around James. Arty's elevator finally moves, but down. The door opens to an empty parking level, save for a single car with its hood up. "Maybe I can help" he says, and does the trick that Adam taught him. As the car's engine revs, he lowers the hood to see a very appreciative Tonya Onya. The time jumps forward six months, to a beautiful outdoor wedding setup. As James is preparing, Adam's pride is evident. James has new confidence with his meteoric rise as a personal designer for rich clients. To the Koenig's chagrin, Chile acts as Tracy's maid of honor, and Winnie and Rita are with the bridesmaids. Tonya and Arty are in the audience, wearing wedding bands. And the cover of a magazine, the Advocate, proclaims "the Business Couple of the Year," with Adam and his business partner standing proudly over a fleet of classic cars. The wedding music swells, and everyone lives happily ever after. | |
