JAMES
(suddenly realizing it is
Adam.)
Oh, my God! I DO know that guy!
CUT TO:
On stage, Adam tries to move. Every direction he steps
in, one or two dancers block his way. Then his leash is
pulled by another masculine dancer. Adam spins at the
leash tug. The masculine dancer is joined by another
masculine dancer. Together, they pull on the leash,
bringing Adam closer and closer to them. All the while,
Adam is fighting them, causing a tug of war. It all
looks like it was intentionally choreographed. The
audience is responding to the power play on the stage,
clapping and whooping.
CUT TO:
James, staring in disbelief.
JAMES (CONT'D)
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.
CUT TO:
On stage, Adam is losing the tug of war, moving closer
and closer to the two. Just as he is in reach to be
grabbed, he dives to the floor, doing a somersault,
escaping their grasp. As he jumps up, he uncaps the
leash from his collar.
DANCER 2
(to Dancer 1)
That's not in the act!
DANCER 1
(to Dancer 2)
Go with it!
Desperately, Adam looks around. Dancers are closing in
on him, improvising to their new star. Adam looks around
again, then sees a way out. He runs to the side of the
stage, past one dancer, leap-frogging over another, and
lands next to a motorcycle. He jumps on it, looks for
the key. He can't find it. He finds it in a compartment
and kicks it into start. The motor revs. The audience
cheers.
CUT TO:
James, who has now covered his face with his hands. He
is peeking from between his fingers.
JAMES
Oh my God. Oh my God.
CUT TO:
On stage, Adam spins the cycle around. He guns the
motor, then drives across the stage. One exit is blocked
by dancers, one brandishing a leather whip. He turns the
cycle. He sees another opening, and drives toward it.
As he passes one of the boxes on stage, Dancer 1 leaps
off of it, landing on the back of the cycle. He puts his
arms around Adam. The audience cheers wildly as the two
drive off stage.
CUT TO:
James at the table.
JAMES (CONT'D)
(head down on the table)
Is it over?
CHILI
Yes, dear. It's over.
(to waiter)
We need another round here, please!
CUT TO:
Back stage. We see Adam jumping off the motorcycle. He
looks near-panicked. Before he can react, though, he is
surrounded by dancers and other people. They are
cheering him, applauding him, patting him on the back.
It is non-sexual, like players on a team congratulating
the star player. Adam realizes he is a hero.
DANCER 1
You were awesome!
DANCER 2
Where have you been all my life?
BOB
(pushing through)
My dear, you were terrific! You shot the
choreography to shit, but who cared!
Nijinsky himself couldn't have done
better!
STEVE
And where did you learn to ride a
motorcycle?
