ELLEN (CONT'D)
Hey, Bob.
(kisses his cheek)
How's the fudge biz?
Bob laughs nervously.
BOB
Um..yeah. The shops been hopping. You
should stop by sometime.
ELLEN
Sweetheart, I just gained five pounds by
saying the word "fudge". I can't eat
that sh..
Bob extends hand with the box of chocolates. Ellen
forces a pleased look. She takes them as Randi walks in.
ELLEN (CONT'D)
Oh! Chocolates. That's swee...swell.
Bob giggles. Randi giggles at Bob giggling.
ELLEN (CONT'D)
What?
BOB
~Good save.
He smiles at Randi, who smiles back.
ELLEN
Huh?
(Pause.)
Uh, Bob, you remember Randi, don't you?
My old college roommate? From the
wedding?
RANDI
(Extends hand to shake.)
Hi Bob. It's nice to see you again.
BOB
Sure. Sure. Hi.
(He studies Randi for a
moment.)
You've done something with your hair. It
looks nice.
RANDI
(bashfully)
Oh, not really. But thank you.
Karl walks up with a drink for Bob, and a refresher for
Randi.
KARL
Here you go.
BOB
Thanks.
ELLEN
It's the new color Cookie's using. It's
called "chocolate mousse".
(Karl looks at Ellen,
surprised)
Get it? Mousse. As in hair mousse? And
chocolate?
(speaking to Randi, pointing
to Bob's shirt)
He owns a chocolate shop.
BOB
(smiling politely)
Sure do. That's clever, Ellen.
(They all force a laughs)
ELLEN
Go in and make yourself comfortable.
(looks around)
Dinner is almost ready. Can I get you
anything?
Randi starts to go to kitchen.
BOB
Crackpipe, if you got one.
(laughs)
Kidding! My beer is fine.
ELLEN
(looking at Bob with a forced
smile.)
You kook, you! ~Randi and I, we're just
finishing. Dinner. It shouldn't be
long. Go and relax.
Bob exits to the living room. The two women then walk
into the kitchen.
RANDI
(Whisper)
You are so weird!
ELLEN
I'm going to need my morphine drip.
CUT TO: INT. DINING ROOM -- LATER
A close up of a hand with fork on a plate. The camera
pulls back to Ellen, Randi, Karl and Bob at the dining
room table. They are finishing the meal.
RANDI
(to Karl)
Can you believe how quickly your firm has
taken off?
KARL
I'm hoping for a normal life soon. This
case ends Friday so we'll have a free
weekend for a change.
ELLEN
I'll believe it when I fucking see it.
RANDI
Ellen!
ELLEN
(flatly)
Get the goddamn soap and wash out my
mouth.
(looks at wine glass)
This'll do.
(empties the glass)
Ellen starts clearing the table through
the next dialogue.
KARL
(to Randi)
Where did she learn that vocabulary?
BOB
(to Ellen)
Was your mother a sailor.
ELLEN
Momma's no sailor. She's a saint. Or so
she reminds me every Sunday.
