DAVID
On your 40th birthday, I wish you nothing
but health, happiness and love.
(slight pause)
I just wish it could have been me.
David kisses Edward on the cheek.
(In a mock southern accent)
Now Blanche. Never say never. Right?
Neal puts on a record. It is THE SEA by Bobby Daren.
Then Edward looks over and sees Neal standing next to
Ellen. Neal is leaning over and his head is pressed
against Ellen's stomach. The two are giggling.
David then gets up and walks over to the group. Edward
looks about the room at all the new and old friends in
his life. He then gets up and walks towards the window
and looks out at the view.
CUT TO: EXT. STREET-DAY
CONTINUOUS
Edward looks down from the window and sees the elderly
American Indian gentleman from the diner in Wyoming
standing on the street corner with another American
Indian gentlemen the same age as he. The two men are
holding hands. The camera then cuts to Edward with a
disbelieving look on his face. The camera then cuts to
the man and he slowly looks up at the window at Edward.
He smiles and nods. Edward smiles and nods back. Then a
trolley car pulls up and the two men disappear as the
trolley pulls away. A calm, peaceful smile comes across
Edward's face. Then a breeze blows and his breath is
taken away.
CUT TO: EXT. THE SHORE BY THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
An attractive man about Edward's age and his dog are
standing on the beach. He is staring out at the ocean.
A breeze blows again and his breath in now taken away,
the same as Edward's. The man smiles.
INT. NEAL'S LOFT- MOMENTS LATER
Edward still looking out of the window, smiling. Edward
then turns around and looks at his younger brother. Neal
looks over at Edward and smiles. Edward smiles and winks
back at his brother. Then Neal begins to dance towards
Edward. Edward laughs. Neal then takes Edward's hand.
The two brothers begin to dance together. The music gets
louder. The others watch. The camera pulls out to a
slow pull up shot of the party.
Black out. Credits roll under the remains of the song.
