ELLEN I know, honey. I'll be a fag in my next life. RANDI No, not that. I mean you are going to be one Goddamn knock-up mom. But that's just my exalted opinion. ELLEN You know, Cookie, you're going to have to watch your foul mouth around my kid. Nobody wants a God mother that talks like a truck driver. RANDI Me?! The two women laugh. The door bell rings. Ellen pulls Randi off of her. She looks panicked. ELLEN Oh! I think I'm getting my first attack of morning sickness. Could you get the door Ed? Randi, I need you to come with me. To hold my head. Or something. RANDI Ellen, you know I get sympathy nausea! Ellen then drags Randi quickly by the hand into the bedroom. Edward sits there, looking confused. The door bell rings again. Edward get up to answer the door. He opens the door. David is standing there, bundled up and shivering. DAVID Hey. EDWARD (in disbelief) David? DAVID (nervous) Its freakin' cold here! All the cows and pigs are frozen solid along Michigan Avenue. David forces a laugh and enters the room. He crosses behind Edward. Edward stands and stares for a moment. DAVID I just went to the Art Institute. Those huge paintings are magnificent. David chuckles and smiles at Edward. Edward still has the same look on his face and hasn't moved. EDWARD Yes. They are. David then takes a deep breath and walks slowly over to Edward and puts his arms around him in an embrace. DAVID I'm so sorry. EDWARD Thanks. DAVID I know this is rather forward of me. But this is more for me than for you. I just needed to be here for you. (The two men just look at each other for a moment.) I'll leave if you want. EDWARD (still dazed) No...come on in. I want you to meet Ellen and ...Randi, but they just went to...throw up. Edward points to the living room. The two men then walk towards the living room. DAVID I've been talking to Ellen on the phone. I hope she's not upset that I'm not a Mormon. She's been trying like crazy to find me a temple while I was in town. Edward stops and looks at him. Looks over his shoulder towards the direction the two women went to. Edward then continues to follow David into the living room. CUT TO: INT. ELLEN'S & KARL'S HALLWAY RANDI (whispers) So he's not a Mormon? ELLEN I guess not. RANDI He sure is cute, even if he was one. ELLEN Shhh! Cut back to Edward and David sitting in the living room. DAVID I got a room at the Ambassador East. What's money when you have none, right? Life only happens once. (David catches himself. Quickly changes the mood.) What a nice hotel! I peeked into the Pump Room...pretty snazzy. Photo's of all those celebrities. (slight pause, direct tone.) Ed. That guy, the one you saw... kissing me the other day. EDWARD Come again? DAVID Don't be mad. He was just being a concerned brother. Be pissed at me. I pulled it out of him. EDWARD (flatly) Not with much effort, I'm sure. DAVID It wasn't what you think it was. EDWARD You don't owe me an explanation.
